Code of Ethics

What qualifies a Massage Therapist to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia?

There are strict rules & regulations to become a Certified Massage Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • First you must complete training with an accredited college with a program providing a minimum of 500 hours of instruction. Education includes physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition and ethics courses, as well has intensive hours of hands on instruction and supervision.
  • A graduate of one of these schools must then pass the NCBTMB exam.
  • After successfully passing the exam, an application for licensure must be submitted to the Virginia Board of Nursing, the regulatory agency for Massage Therapists.
  • Then business licenses must be obtained in the counties and/or cities that the therapist will be practicing in. Often time this will also require a background check and the filing of fingerprints at the local sheriff's office.
  • Finally, many Certified Massage Therapists will also join a professional organization in order to receive support and liability insurance.

Do you offer that “Something Extra”?

I am reminded daily that massage and sex are still closely linked in people’s minds.  Massage can be a wonderfully sensual experience, but sensual does not equal sexual. Not everything sensual has to lead to sex, nor is the engagement of the sense of touch between humans automatically to be construed as a sexual come-on. It is the slow evolution of this discernment in certain portions of our society that makes it necessary for me to answer those daily inquires.  It is unfortunate that as Massage Therapists are solidifying their domain in the medical field as trained professionals, we are still shadowed by prostitution.  Now, if you have gotten this far and still don’t understand my position on that “something extra”, let me be blunt: You will not find anything sexual about my business. Please do not waste your time or mine. If you engage with any line of questioning regarding this service, your session will be terminated immediately. You will be responsible for the cost of a full session.
